We’re finally in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of the Malaysian state of Sabah, on the island of Borneo. It’s a great little city, with very easy access to incredible snorkeling and diving, and within a couple hours of the mountains. There’s also a great Italian place in town that I’m itching to go back to.

For the immediate future, we’ll be staying at the home of some colleagues, who are in the States until June. So there’s no real rush to go out and find a home, although there would be something nice about not having to unpack all of our boxes and then have to pack them up again.

Anyway, this apartment actually has a little bit of shop space for me, so I’m quite pleased. There is a balcony that goes out the back door of the kitchen, which is where the washing machine and clotheslines are. There is also a maid’s room out there (people having live-in maids here is not uncommon) with an adjoining bathroom. And with a little creative shuffling of the stuff in there, voila! I have a shop!
